Veterinary roles we recruit

Who does your practice
need to hire?

Choose the recruitment service for your vacancy, from a general-practice associate to a specialist or multi-hospital leader.

For Boston veterinary employers

One metro, many municipalities.
Specific hospital assignments.

A Back Bay associate role, a Framingham regional leadership search and a Waltham emergency appointment need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, municipality, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.

Associate veterinarians

Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time, and set the start date after the Massachusetts license date.

Plan an associate search →

Specialist and emergency appointments

Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the technicians who support the shift.

Scope a specialist role →

Medical and regional leadership

List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and say who serves as each facility’s Veterinary Medical Director.

Define a medical director role →

Put the hospital address, municipality and county in the brief.

Use the actual work address, the municipality, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present a Brookline or Peabody vacancy as interchangeable with a Boston neighborhood hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.

Keep one clear decision process.

Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package, including the pay range, and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s Massachusetts license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.

Choose the service that matches the vacancy.

This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.

Boston veterinary hiring context for employers

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine states that licensees must complete 15 hours of continuing education in the calendar year before renewal, and its regulation allows no more than six of those hours to be non-interactive. The Board’s FAQ says every applicant must pass a 20-question, open book Jurisprudence Examination and that a veterinarian licensed in another state for more than five years may apply by reciprocity. Under the Board’s practice regulation every veterinary facility must appoint a Veterinary Medical Director, who must confirm each veterinarian’s license before hiring and every year before March 1, and an emergency facility must keep a licensed veterinarian on site during its posted hours. The Board’s licensing pages list no technician license, and the Legislature’s website shows a bill to regulate veterinary technicians referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means in July 2025. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH area median annual wage above the national median for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants, and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University awards the D.V.M. in Massachusetts. The same state rules apply to every Boston employer, so confirm them before the Boston search starts.

  • Continuing education support: the Board requires 15 hours each calendar year with no more than six non-interactive, so state the paid time and the live courses the hospital covers.
  • License route and start date: every applicant completes the Jurisprudence Examination and reciprocity is open to doctors licensed elsewhere for more than five years, so keep the license date and the start date separate.
  • Medical director and license checks: name the Veterinary Medical Director, who confirms each veterinarian’s Massachusetts license before hiring and every year before March 1.
  • Pay range: Massachusetts requires employers with 25 or more employees to disclose the pay range in job postings, so agree the range before the search starts.
  • Technician credential: the Board lists no technician license, so name the credential the hospital requires and who verifies it.

Market context is attributed to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine, Massachusetts veterinary license renewal page, Massachusetts veterinary FAQs, 256 CMR 9.00 continuing education, 256 CMR 5.00 practice, Massachusetts Legislature Bill H.4278, Massachusetts Legislature Bill S.277, 256 CMR 3.00 licenses, Massachusetts veterinary temporary permits, Massachusetts earned sick time guidance, Massachusetts pay transparency guidance, Tufts Cummings School D.V.M. program, O*NET OnLine veterinarian wages by area, O*NET OnLine veterinary technician wages by area and O*NET OnLine veterinary assistant wages by area. These are third-party and state sources, not BEGHR claims.

Plan Massachusetts credential checks before the start date.

Use the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Licensure license lookup for the relevant professional record. Massachusetts licenses veterinarians through the Board of Registration in Veterinary Medicine within the Division of Occupational Licensure. Assign a person to check license status and the renewal date, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Board. The Board’s licensing pages list no technician license category, so check any technician credential the employer requires with the organization that issues it, along with any specialty credentials.

For a candidate moving from another state, review the Massachusetts veterinary license application requirements. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that Massachusetts requirements are satisfied. Every applicant completes the Board’s Jurisprudence Examination, and a veterinarian licensed elsewhere for more than five years may apply by reciprocity. The Board determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.

For renewal, continuing education and the practice rules for medical directors and emergency facilities, see the Massachusetts veterinary license renewal page and the Board’s practice regulation, 256 CMR 5.00.

Veterinary recruitment coverage

Boston and
surrounding communities.

A Boston veterinary search works best when the hospital address comes before the city label. Boston neighborhoods and the cities and towns around them in Suffolk, Middlesex, Norfolk and Essex counties are different workplaces under different local governments. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.

Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep Boston neighborhoods separate from neighboring cities and towns. The City of Boston lists 24 neighborhood entries, while Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton and Quincy are separate municipalities, and MAPC groups 101 cities and towns into eight subregions. Brookline is a town in Norfolk County and Boston is in Suffolk County. Coverage on this site is limited to Massachusetts; a hospital in New Hampshire or Rhode Island falls under a different licensing authority.

Central Boston

Back Bay and the South End are separate Boston neighborhoods on the City’s own list of 24, and the list also names Bay Village, Beacon Hill, Downtown, the North End, the West End and Chinatown-Leather District as their own entries. The Boston Planning Department describes the South End as lying just south of the Back Bay. Give the street address and the neighborhood the City assigns before describing a central role, and list any second site on its own line.

Southwest Boston

Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and West Roxbury are separate Boston neighborhoods in the city’s southwest. The Planning Department places Roslindale in southwest Boston, says West Roxbury sits in the southwest corner bordered by Roslindale and Hyde Park, and describes Jamaica Plain as southwest of Downtown. Hyde Park is a separate neighborhood on the City’s list. Name the neighborhood and street address for each hospital, and list any second site on its own line.

South Boston and Dorchester

The Planning Department describes South Boston as a peninsula south of Downtown and east of the South End and Dorchester, and calls Dorchester the City’s largest neighborhood. The City lists Mid-Dorchester as a separate small part of Dorchester, and the Planning Department names communities inside Dorchester such as Codman Square, Savin Hill and Lower Mills. Give the street address and the community or neighborhood, so a candidate does not read Dorchester as one location.

Harbor neighborhoods and Brighton

East Boston and Charlestown are both across the harbor from Downtown, according to the Planning Department, which says East Boston was built on islands joined by landfill and Charlestown lies to the north of Downtown. Brighton is a separate northwest neighborhood, and the City lists Allston as its own entry. Treat each as its own assignment, and list any site in Chelsea, Cambridge or Newton on a separate line because those are separate cities.

North of the Charles River

Cambridge, Somerville and Medford are cities in Middlesex County and members of the Inner Core Committee, one of the eight subregional committees of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). Each runs its own animal control program, and none is a Boston neighborhood. A role that spans two of them should name the address and municipality of each site.

West of Boston

Brookline is a town in Norfolk County, while Newton, Waltham and Watertown are cities in Middlesex County, and the Census Bureau file carries Watertown’s legal name as "Watertown Town city." All four belong to MAPC’s Inner Core Committee. Boston is in Suffolk County, so a Brookline hospital and a Boston hospital are in different counties and under different local governments. Give the municipality and county for every site.

South of Boston

Quincy and Braintree are cities in Norfolk County. MAPC lists Quincy in the Inner Core Committee and Braintree in the South Shore Coalition. Describe each site by municipality and street address, and treat a Dorchester or Mattapan site as a Boston neighborhood in Suffolk County rather than as part of either city.

North of Boston

Malden is a city in Middlesex County in MAPC’s Inner Core Committee. Woburn is a city in Middlesex County in the North Suburban Planning Council, and Peabody is a city in Essex County in the North Shore Task Force, whose sixteen communities are all in Essex County. Peabody is in a different county from Malden and Woburn, so give the municipality, county and street address for each role.

MetroWest

Framingham is a city and Natick is a town, both in Middlesex County, and MAPC lists both in the MetroWest Regional Collaborative. They are separate municipalities with separate clerks and rules, so a regional role should list each hospital by address. Boston neighborhoods are in Suffolk County, a different county from both.

Employer questions

Veterinary recruiting questions

Which veterinary positions can Boston employers recruit through BEGHR?

The service covers permanent associate veterinarians, veterinary specialists, emergency DVMs, surgery appointments, medical directors and regional veterinary leaders. Search fit depends on the role, clinical requirements and employer brief. The practice makes the final hiring decision.

Is this for employers hiring veterinarians or for job applications?

This website is for practice owners and employer hiring teams seeking permanent veterinary staff. Its form requests a hiring brief and returns a placement estimate after employer opt-in. It is not an open-jobs directory or a candidate application form.

How does milestone billing work?

Agree the role, estimated fee range, billable milestones and payment terms before the search begins. Recruiting uses an hourly, pay-as-you-go model within the agreed range. BEGHR’s published placement process starts billing after applicants are sent. Invoices follow the agreed cadence, at least monthly during billable service delivery. BEGHR handles client billing and account questions.

Do we pay if a search does not result in a hire?

Milestone billing pays for agreed work as the search progresses, so completed billable milestones may still be payable without a placement. Your client agreement specifies the billing triggers, amounts, due dates and any cancellation terms.

Where can we see our placement price?

Select your role, complete the hiring questions and submit your employer contact details through the pricing form to receive an estimated fee range. BEGHR confirms the role classification, final fee and payment milestones before you engage the service.

How long does placement take?

BEGHR’s placement timeframe is 23–55 days. Timing depends on the role, candidate availability and the employer’s hiring process.

How does BEGHR pricing compare with contingency recruiting?

BEGHR offers placement at typically 50% less than contingency recruiting and 50% off second and subsequent hires for the same role. Use the pricing form for an estimate and confirm your fee and repeat-hire eligibility before starting.

What fill rate does BEGHR report?

BEGHR reports 86% fill rate on active searches across its placement service. This provider-wide figure is not a city-specific or veterinary-only result and does not guarantee an individual hiring outcome.

Who receives my employer inquiry?

Business Executive Group receives your contact information, selected roles, qualification answers, placement estimate and the originating website and page through its existing BEGHR lead intake. This is an employer inquiry, not a candidate job application.

How are placement fees confirmed?

The instant-pricing form uses BEGHR’s role categories and current retail ranges to show an estimate after you submit your employer details. The provider confirms the actual category, scope, payment milestones and commercial terms before a search engagement begins.
